SugarLens Sugar Content AI Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Summary

When you scan, your photo is sent through our AI server to an AI provider, and the result comes back to your device. Our server does not store photos or results. Your log, notes, voice notes and locations stay on this device.

This policy covers the SugarLens Sugar Content AI app for iPhone and iPad, published by mk0.net, an independent app studio. It is written from what the app actually does in its code. Questions: [email protected].

What we receive

Photos you choose to scan pass through our AI server, which does not store them or the results. Each request carries a random install ID used to manage access and prevent abuse. We have no user accounts for this app.

What stays on your device

  • Your scans, photos, results, notes, tags, ratings and albums are stored on this device.
  • Voice notes and Live Photo clips are saved inside the app on this device.
  • Your profile name, picture, daily sugar budget and settings are stored on this device.
  • If you turn on location tagging, the location of a saved scan is stored on this device.

We cannot see this data. It is not uploaded to us.

Permissions the app may ask for

  • Camera: Asked when you take a photo of a food, drink or label to scan it.
  • Photos: Asked when you pick a photo to scan, when you let the app find recent food photos (checked on your device), or when you save a result card to your library.
  • Microphone: Asked when you record a voice note for a saved item. Recordings stay on this device.
  • Location: Asked only if you turn on location tagging, which is off by default, to save where you had a food.
  • Notifications: Asked when you turn on reminders. They are created on your device.

Every permission is optional and can be changed later in the iPhone Settings app. Features that need a permission you decline simply stay unavailable.

Data that leaves your device

The app talks to the following services. Each receives only what is listed, and only for the purpose shown.

  • mk0.net AI service (runs on Cloudflare Workers) and OpenAI (photo identification): Only when you scan: the resized photo, your app language and the analysis request are sent. A random install ID and a security signature are included to manage access. Their privacy policy.
  • Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation) (background information): After a scan, the name of the identified item and your language code are sent to fetch a short summary. Their privacy policy.
  • Apple Maps (showing maps): Used to show the places of your saved scans on a map, only if you use location tagging. Their privacy policy.
  • WishKit (in-app feature request board): Only if you open the feature request board and submit or vote on an idea. Their privacy policy.
  • RevenueCat (subscription management): An anonymous purchase ID and your subscription status, when you view the paywall, subscribe, restore purchases, or when the app checks whether your subscription is active. Your app content is never sent. Their privacy policy.

Sensitive information

Your food log shows what you eat and drink and may include locations and voice recordings. It is stored only on this device. Only the photo you scan is sent for analysis, without your name or account.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple ID, card or payment details. The app checks your subscription status through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous ID and your purchase status, not your identity.

Ads, tracking and analytics

No ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data. The app contains no analytics SDK.

Account

No account needed. There is no sign-up and nothing to log in to.

Children

SugarLens Sugar Content AI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Keeping and deleting your data

Delete scans inside the app. Export your log as JSON or CSV first if you want a copy. Deleting the app removes its local data. A small install ID and scan credit counter are kept in the iOS Keychain so trial credits are not reset by reinstalling.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA or KVKK), you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. Because the app keeps your records on your own device, you can do most of this directly in the app or by deleting it. For anything else, or for data held by a service listed above, email [email protected] and we will help within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date below before the change ships.
